4-Star Hotels in Beijing

Jianguo Hotel Editor Pick!
Jianguo Hotel, Beijing The Jianguo Hotel is the most appealing of Beijing’s four star hotels and is probably also the pick for value.
What makes this hotel special is the fresh and cheerful atmosphere: beautiful gardens surround the lobby area, and the hotel has friendly staff, bright rooms and attractive facilities. Rooms are spacious and boast large bathrooms, while business rooms also have a balcony. Rack rates start at an exorbitant $320, however discounted prices drop as low as $80. Facilities at the Jianguo Hotel are all solid. Located very close to the World Trade Center, the Silk Market and just a few minutes walk from the subway, the location is very convenient.

Traders Hotel
Traders Hotel, Beijing Right behind the China World Hotel, within the World Trade Center complex is the Traders Hotel.
And therein lies the real value of the Traders Hotel – guests have access to all the facilities of the China World Hotel, but pay less for the privilege. Rooms start at about $130 and are quite large and feature free wireless internet. They are, however, showing their age and are a tad dreary. The Traders Hotel also features a great, atmospheric bar which sprawls out into a beer garden in the summer months. The Traders Hotel is a fine choice for business travelers who are looking for good value as much as for opulence.

Novotel Peace Hotel
Novotel Peace Hotel, Beijing The Novotel Peace Hotel is the standard sort of Novotel joint, offering well-appointed rooms and a whole host of facilities.
Rooms are modern, nicely furnished and pleasantly decorated. Prices are a little high but not hyper-inflated. You shouldn’t pay more than about $140. Facilities include a business center, swimming pool and four quality restaurants, plus extensive conference and function rooms. Staff are efficient and speak good English, but can be unnecessarily abrupt and formal. The Novotel Peace Hotel should be most attractive to business travelers, though tourists who demand the generic comforts and style of such hotels might want to consider it as well.

CTS Hotel
CTS Hotel, Beijing The CTS Hotel is a solid though overpriced option that’s probably too far out of the center to appeal to tourists.
The location on the north-east corner of the Third Ring Road at least provides easy access to both the airport and the CBD. CTS Hotel doesn’t disappoint in any way with a grand lobby replete with tinkling ivory and spacious, well-appointed rooms. The staff are quite efficient and speak good English. But with standard rooms at the CTS Hotel starting at around $110, you can usually find better value accommodation elsewhere (not to mention, closer to the center). Facilities at this massive hotel include a business center, swimming pool and Chinese and Western restaurants.

North Garden Hotel
North Garden Hotel, Beijing The North Garden Hotel is a quality option with a wonderful location just off the Wangfujing shopping street.
It’s suitable for tourists as well as business travelers, with ample business and leisure facilities. Most staff speak only a basic level of English – enough to cover the essentials. Rooms are spacious and well-appointed, though carpet stains and stained bathroom tiles are unbefitting of a hotel in this price range. Prices start at around $120 per night. The North Garden Hotel might not be the best value hotel in this category, or have the best service, but it’s worth considering for its location alone.

Dong Jiao Min Xiang Hotel
Dong Jiao Min Xiang Hotel, Beijing The best thing about the Dong Jiao Min Xiang Hotel is its location, situated on a serene street just 10 minutes walk from Tiananmen Square.
Rooms are spacious, but look a little old and drab and generally the quality is below par for a four star hotel. Discounted prices start at about $80 per night, including a buffet breakfast. The main problem you might have at the is communication with the staff – the level of English is quite low. The Dong Jiao Min Xiang has reasonable prices for a four star hotel, but it’s not really up to the standard that the rating implies. Indeed, the hotel is somewhat over-priced for what it offers. But it’s certainly not a bad place to stay and the location won’t disappoint.

Jade Garden Hotel
Jade Garden Hotel, Beijing Although somewhat bland, the Jade Garden Hotel presents quite good value for money.
Although the rack rates of ¥1200 for a standard room and ¥1600 for a superior room are excessive, you shouldn’t actually have to pay more than $80 for a standard room here. Rooms are clean and furnished nicely, although they are a little bland, and have free internet access and a few foreign channels on the box. A buffet breakfast is included. Staff are efficient, though not particularly friendly, and speak acceptable English. Meanwhile the Jade Garden Hotel boasts a great location for tourists – about halfway between Wangfujing and the east gate of the Forbidden City.
