Guangdong Museum of Art
This ultra-modern art gallery is mainly devoted to hosting exhibitions but also features an excellent collection of permanent works. The museum’s mainstays are mainly contemporary artworks – the creations of local painters as well as overseas Chinese – and many are fantastic. Meanwhile, the Guangdong Museum of Art’s 12 exhibition halls host up to 60 exhibitions each year. In addition to the 8000 square meters of floor space inside the gallery, there is also a 5000 square meter outdoor sculpture garden. A visit to the Guangdong Museum of Art also provides an excuse to check out Ersha Island – a very modern area of Guangzhou with a high concentration of expats. The stunning Xinghai Concert Hall just across from the gallery is also worth checking out.
