Luxury Hotels in Guilin (4-Star and 5-Star Hotels)

Lijiang Waterfall Hotel Editor Pick!
Lijiang Waterfall Hotel, Guilin While a couple of Guilin hotels compete in service and facilities, none match the unique style of the Lijiang Waterfall Hotel.
The world’s largest man-made waterfall cascades down one side of the Lijiang Waterfall Hotel. The vast lobby with its soaring atrium is striking, as is the rare sight of an entire squadron of reception staff. Unfortunately the service is suspect. Rooms are lovely but pricey with rack rates starting at ¥1320 for a standard. Discounts of around 30% are possible. It’s worth springing for a river view room for the panorama they offer of the Li River, Elephant Hill and the pagodas on Shanhu Lake. The hotel’s dead-central location is another plus.

Guilin Sheraton Hotel
After a 2008 renovation, the Guilin Sheraton Hotel is the stand-out five-star option in the city.
Some things will disappoint – staff English and service in general could be better and hotel amenities aren’t quite up to five-star scratch. But considering the reasonable prices, this can be excused. Rates for standard rooms start as low as ¥800 ($117), but it’s probably better to spend the extra money for a river view room. All rooms have free internet access. The Guilin Sheraton’s location is excellent – right on the Li River, just around the corner from the main pedestrian mall and walking distance from most of the city’s attractions.

Bravo Hotel
Bravo Hotel, Guilin The four-star Bravo Hotel is usually the hotel of choice for tour operators dealing with foreigners.
And it’s not a bad choice, though not the best high-end option in Guilin. Facing onto Ronghu Lake, it benefits from peaceful environs and a convenient location. The Bravo Hotel was formerly the Guilin Holiday Inn, which gives an idea of the standard of the rooms: comfortable if largely unimaginative, despite a 2007 renovation. Rack rates are ¥918 for a standard room, or ¥998 for a lake-view room. Rates are discounted by about 40%, making the price less than $90. A buffet breakfast at the western restaurant costs around $15.

Mid-Range Hotels in Guilin (3-Star Hotels)

Hotel Universal
Hotel Universal, Guilin The best feature of the three-star Hotel Universal is its location, right in the center of Guilin, facing the Li River.
This endows most rooms with wonderful views. Rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable and have an interesting feel to them, evocative of a 1980s beach resort. Rack rates at the Hotel Universal are ¥668 for a standard room and ¥818 for a standard river view room. Expect discounts of 45% – $65 is a good price for a river view room. A western buffet breakfast is an additional ¥58. All rooms have free internet access and limited cable TV channels. Not much else in the way of amenities and there’s not much English spoken here.

Fubo Hotel
Fubo Hotel, Guilin A perfectly acceptable three-star option that doesn’t offer anything to really distinguish itself.
The riverside location not far from Fubo Hill means many rooms have lovely views of the Li River. The darkish interior gives an old-fashioned, but not unpleasant, feel to the lobby and the rooms. Rooms can had for less than $60 (at a discounted rate). The buffet breakfast costs ¥65 while in-room internet access is a token ¥10 per day. Staff speak excellent English, which is rare for a hotel of this class in China, and are friendly. While it’s unlikely to make any lasting impression on visitors, the Fubo Hotel certainly won’t disappoint.

Budget Hotels and Youth Hostels in Guilin

Backstreet Youth Hostel Editor Pick!
Backstreet Youth Hostel, Guilin Backstreet Youth Hostel has a perfect location right in the center of Guilin, only a short stroll to the Li River.
The city’s main pedestrian mall is just around the corner and most of the city’s attractions are within walking distance. The private rooms are basic but spacious and very good value: ¥100-120. The dorm rooms are too cramped but also good value at ¥30-35. Some of the staff are truly lovely, but management is more curt and seems eager to pump every possible cent out of guests. Backstreet Youth Hostel boasts a large common area with free wireless internet and a couple of public computers. All things considered, this is Guilin’s best hostel.

Flowers International Youth Hostel
Flowers Youth Hostel, Guilin It’s not Guilin’s best, but Flowers Youth Hostel might appeal if you want to stay near the train station or save money.
Generally, double or twin rooms with private bathrooms cost ¥100, twin rooms with shared bathrooms are ¥80 and dorm beds are ¥35. But prices can drop lower than this at certain times. The main problem with Flowers Youth Hostel is that the rooms are pretty drab – they look ugly, are tiny and feature squat toilets. It’s very basic accommodation. On the bright side, the hostel has a nice common area with a pool table and free wireless internet access and the staff are fun if not overly helpful. A selection of Western and Chinese food is served at the hostel.

Home Inn, Guilin Train Station
Home Inn, Guilin Train Station The Home Inn is a good option for budget accommodation seekers who prefer not to stay in youth hostels.
On the downside, the level of English spoken is much lower. But on the positive side you will have more privacy and rooms, although small, are more modern and cleaner than at youth hostels. The Home Inn is similar to other nation-wide budget chains such as the Green Tree Inn and Motel 126, but features rooms that are perhaps a little more visually appealing than its rivals. Rooms cost ¥169-¥189 depending on their size and boast free internet access, televisions and very nice bathrooms. Located directly opposite the train station.
