Located near the north shore, Gu Shan is the other major island on West Lake. In fact it’s the biggest island and the only natural one, though it is linked to the shore by land bridges. There’s nothing particular you should seek out here: it’s just a nice place to wander around. If you’re interested in museums, the Zhejiang Provincial Museum (25 Gushan Lu; www.zhejiangmuseum.com) is on the island. It’s free, so it doesn’t hurt to drop in.
Directions: Entrance to Gu Shan is from Beishan Lu, via the bridges on either side of the island.
