Like the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, the Jinmao Tower is a mix of modern design with Chinese characteristics. Unlike the Pearl TV Tower, most people think the Jinmao Tower is quite beautiful. Construction on the Jinmao Tower wascompleted in 1998 and until 2007 it was the tallest building in China at 420.5 meters. However, it has now been surpassed by the Shanghai World Financial Center, right next-door. The Grand Hyatt Hotel, which occupies the building’s top floors, remains the highest hotel in the world.
There are a couple of options for checking out the views. Firstly you can head up to the observation deck on the 88th floor (top floor) at 340 meters. However, a better option is the Cloud 9 Bar in the Grand Hyatt Hotel on the 87th Floor. It’s cheaper than you would think (a beer is only ¥70 plus 15%), but the support beams block the view a bit. You could also have a meal or coffee at one of the Grand Hyatt’s restaurants or cafes on the 54th floor.
Admission: ¥70 (observation deck). Open: 8:30am-9pm.
