Lounge Bars in Shanghai

Cloud 9 Bar
Cloud 9 Bar, Shanghai Located on the 87th Floor of the Jinmao Tower in the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Cloud 9 Bar is more of a tourist attraction than a quality nightspot.
It’s an attraction worth visiting, though it suffers from a number of flaws. Service is average considering the prices and supposed class of the place and drinks aren’t as well made as you might hope for either. The major problem though, is that the view is significantly obscured by massive beams across the picture windows and unless you’re seated right by the windows you won’t see much at all. Drinks at Cloud 9 aren’t as expensive as you might think, with prices starting at around ¥75 for a small draught Tiger, while cocktails start at about ¥90. There’s a two drink minimum after 8pm and a 15% service charge.

Barbarossa, Shanghai By day Barbarossa is a wonderfully chic and relaxing cafe, and by night its one of Shanghai’s hippest lounge bars.
What gives spark to both incarnations is the trendy Moroccan-themed interior and the tranquil setting on a pond in People’s Park, with a view of Shanghai’s inner-city skyscrapers looming over the greenery. Balconies downstairs and upstairs provide the perfect places to soak in the serenity. By day Barbarossa boasts gourmet sandwiches and tasty pastas (average ¥60) on the menu along with strong coffee (¥25), while by evening DJs spin chill-out and electro beats while patrons imbibe on draught Paulaner (¥76) and quality cocktails (average ¥80) and puff on hookahs (from ¥100). While prices verge on the exorbitant, Barbarossa is stylish enough to justify it. The daily happy hour from 5pm-8pm makes drinks half price.

Bar Rouge
Bar Rouge, Shanghai Bar Rouge is an upscale lounge bar that has a tendency to polarize visitors.
Some might find it offers nothing but pretentious people, overpriced drinks and poor service. Others might love the fashionable crowd and the flair of the bartenders. What cannot be disputed is that Bar Rouge offers a lovely view – the outside balcony provides an unblemished vista of the Pudong skyline. But it must also be accepted that the drinks aren’t the best quality despite an average price of ¥80 for a mixed drink or cocktail. Music is generally generic house, but it’s not so important given that there’s no real dance floor. If nothing else, with a crowd that is predominantly foreign and wealthy, Bar Rouge has a touch of old-school colonialism in the air. What better way to get a feel for the Shanghai of the past?
