Shanghai Cuisine Restaurants in Shanghai

Whampoa Club
Whampoa Club, Shanghai The striking Whampoa Club restaurant presents excellent service, great views of the Pudong skyline and an innovative take on Shanghai cuisine.
Perched on the fifth floor of the prestigious ‘Three on the Bund’, surprisingly enough, it’s not all that expensive with an average bill about ¥200 per person. The set lunches for ¥118 are good value and allow you to sample a range of the food on offer, while the set dinners offered in the evenings are a lot more expensive but make for a wonderful feast. The a la carte menu is regularly updated with seasonal dishes and new creations. The interior of Whampoa Club is in parts gaudy, dominated by brightly colored glass, while other parts of the restaurant are purely classical in design. A memorable dining experience.

Lynn
Lynn Restaurant, Shanghai Lynn is a stylish and classy restaurant that offers a modern take on Shanghai cuisine.
Dim lighting, formal table settings and well-trained waiters make Lynn a great place to take a date or simply for a refined dining experience at prices that won’t strain the budget. Meat-based dishes cost ¥40-90, seafood meals are ¥80-130 and a dim sum menu has most items at ¥20. The quality of the ingredients is obvious from the fresh taste of the food. For drinks, Tiger draught is on the menu at ¥46 for 660mL, cocktails from ¥38 and wine starts at ¥180. Lynn also puts on a weekend all you can eat dim sum brunch for a mere ¥68 ($10) – a great way to try out a range of local cuisine.

Ye Shanghai
Ye Shanghai Restaurant Ye Shanghai boasts a location in the trendy Xintiandi complex and a solid menu of tasty Shanghainese dishes.
The menu has a strong seafood focus and prices are consequently relatively high with an average main course around ¥90. There are some cheaper options for about ¥60 while bottled beer starts at ¥40 and wine is on offer from ¥200 per bottle. Service can be incompetent and communicating with the staff is sometimes a battle, but Ye Shanghai is nevertheless a good place to sample local cuisine. The all you can eat dim sum brunch for ¥98 on weekends is especially appealing as a chance to try out a range of dishes.

The Grape
The Grape Restaurant, Shanghai With very low prices, English-speaking service and excellent food, The Grape is a great place to experience local Shanghai cuisine.
Dishes average around ¥30 and there’s a wide selection to choose from, while bottled beer starts from just ¥12. There’s not a lot to the restaurant’s interior – the few decorations, such as oil paintings, seem more out-of-place than appealing. And the mismatched yet elaborate furniture clashes with the stark white walls. But therein is the appeal of the place – The Grape is little more than a quality neighborhood restaurant that happens to be very accessible for foreigners.

Shanghai Grandmother
Shanghai Grandmother Restaurant Shanghai Grandmother is a simple restaurant that makes for a very cheap and convenient place to experience local cuisine.
Located just one block from the Bund, the restaurant has none of the pomp (or English-speaking staff) that the more celebrated restaurants in this area have. But Shanghai Grandmother offers some excellent, authentic meals at average prices of around ¥30 per dish. The design of this two-storey restaurant is nicer than the usual neighborhood restaurant and there is a clear English menu. This restaurant is a great option for tourists looking for a reliable dining option in the Bund area while not chasing a fancy (or expensive) meal.
