Confucius Temple (Da Cheng Men)
There isn’t a lot of information about this temple devoted to the great Chinese philosopher, though it is thought to be one of the oldest continuously-standing structures in Suzhou. Its main claim to fame is that in the Song Dynasty, the renowned minister Fan Zhongyan attached an academy to the temple. Soon the whole nation was following suit by combining Confucian Temples with places of learning. The temple now houses a collection of old stone steles dating back to the Song Dynasty. The temple is usually empty, so it’s a peaceful place to wander through.
