Xian Drum Tower
Just west of the Bell Tower stands the slightly smaller and slightly older Drum Tower. The Drum Tower was first built in Xian in 1380 (it was last rebuilt in 1740) and along with the Bell Tower served the purpose of broadcasting the time. The Drum Tower is 34 meters tall and stands on a rectangular stone base. Some 24 drums are displayed along the sides of the tower as well as the largest drum in China – a new creation which is representative of the massive drum which stood here in the olden days. Drum performances are held here daily.
Admission: ¥30 (or ¥40 together with the Bell Tower). Open: 8:30-18:00 (until 21:30 in summer).
Directions: The Drum Tower is on Xi Dajie (West Street), about 100 meters west of the Bell Tower.
Show the taxi driver: 请带我去鼓楼, 谢谢。 (Please take me to the Drum Tower. Thank you.)
